Training of Trainers on "Concept and Practices of IWRM" on 9-14 December 2023

"On December 6, 2023, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Water Partnership, Voice of South Bangladesh initiated a symposium and workshop at the regional office in Sharankhola Upazila, Bagerhat district. The event was conducted under the banner of \"Stop water crisis: Time to save the south of Bangladesh,\" with a focus on \"Disaster risk reduction and integrated water management.\" The program, led by Executive Director Amina Begum of Voice of South Bangladesh, brought together key stakeholders, including local government officials, Upazila chairpersons, educators, students, journalists, and other distinguished individuals from Sharankhola. "To inaugurate the &ldquo;Built Water Storage in South Asia to enhance water security in the region&rdquo; project, a series of inception workshops targeting the five designated countries, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Pakistan were being scheduled for five distinctive dates in January 2023.&nbsp;\nIn response to the burgeoning, but largely unrecognized, freshwater storage gap in South Asia, the United States Department of State has funded a 3-year project titled Built Water Storage in South Asia to enhance water security in the region. This regional project is implemented by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.iwmi.cgiar.org/\">International Water Management Institute (IWMI)&nbsp;</a>in collaboration with the GWP SAS which will contribute to a sustainable transformation in how water storage is perceived, planned, and managed.\nAligned with this, IWMI and GWP SAS conducted an inception workshop on 28 January 2023 in Bangladesh which was organized by BWP and CEGIS jointly. The stakeholders in the water sector covering the public and private sector, non-profits, and research institutions were invited for the inauguration where they briefed on the project overview including how the project would address water security issues in Bangladesh. The stakeholders were also briefed on the project logistics and next steps."

"The 11th International Perspective on the Water Resources and&nbsp;the Environment (IPWE) Conference was held from January&nbsp;4-6, 2023 in Dhaka, Bangladesh and BWP is nominated as one&nbsp;of the Local Organizing Committee members. BWP supported the Environmental and Water Resources Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers&nbsp;(ASCE-EWRI) and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET-IWFM) to organize the event.&nbsp;\nHonorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered a video speech at the plenary session as the chief guest. The course aims to improve practitioners’ understanding of planning for integrated water management in the context of climate change. The course discusses how to plan for climate resilient measures in the water sector.The course contains the following modules:  Water resources management for climate change adaptation and mitigation Frameworks for action: from global to national Integrated approaches to planning and management of water Adaptation and mitigation technologies for increased water sector resilience Financing sources. After completing the 5 modules, participants are invited to answer a short feedback survey of the course. Once this survey is answered, participants may download their certificate. "The age structure of Bangladesh shows mostly dominated by young people. The age of the working people is considered 15-64 globally and in Bangladesh it is 15-59 with reference to the Population and Housing Census 2022 done by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). This age population will grow until 2037-2038. This demographic dividend needs to be considered during the water resources policy formulation, review, implementation and evaluation for Bangladesh indeed. Therefore, it is indispensable to engage this youth group to build a water secure Bangladesh through BWP&rsquo;s activities. Supporting this objective, GWP youth&rsquo;s engagement strategy was launched in 2015 and prioritised mobilizing youth for water resources management. This strategy will lead to develop new youth water leaders and professionals for better water decision making to achieve water secured world. Scope of opportunities for youth in BWP:&nbsp;\n &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Capacity building of youth group to become a change agents focusing water resources management. &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Developing proposal with the cooperation of BWP for fund raising. &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Opportunities to participate youth led events organised by GWP. &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Working as a volunteer to become a water professional."
