Mission of BWP

"The Guiding Principles stem from the Dublin and Rio Statements, the Millennium Assembly and the World Summit on Sustainable Development, among others, adapted and elaborated over time to reflect the international understanding of 'equitable and efficient management and sustainable use of water'. These guiding principles are as follows:\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>Freshwater is a finite and vulnerable resource, essential to sustain life, development and the environment.</li>\n<li>Water development and management should be based on a participatory approach involving users, planners and policy makers at all levels.</li>\n<li>Women play a central part in the provision, management and safeguarding of water.</li>\n<li>Water is a public good and has a social and economic value in its competing uses.</li>\n<li>Integrated water resources management is based on the equitable and the efficient management and sustainable use of water and recognizes that water is an integral part of the ecosystem, a natural resource and a social and economic good, whose quantity and quality determine the nature of its utilization.</li>\n</ul>\n&nbsp;"

Guiding Principles of BWP

"Bangladesh Water Partnership was established on 30 September, 1998 through an experts group meeting under the initiative of Mr. Quamrul Islam Siddique, Founder and Former Chief Engineer, LGED focusing following objectives.\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>Help formulate and promote national policies and laws for integrated water resources management.</li>\n<li>Facilitate efficient, equitable and sustainable use of water resources through advocacy, research and actions.</li>\n<li>Promote environmentally sustainable water resources development.</li>\n<li>Disseminate information and facilitate sharing of experiences and knowledge among users, policy makers, water professional, planners and civil societies for development and management of water resources.</li>\n<li>Promote increased use of integrated planning approach.</li>\n<li>Create neutral platform for dialogue on IWRM.</li>\n<li>Ensure multi-stakeholders participation for IWRM.</li>\n<li>Establish linkages and collaboration with government agencies, international agencies, local govt. institutions (LGIs), private organizations and NGOs and other civil society groups e.g., media and various professional groups and promote partnership.</li>\n<li>Building Capacity on IWRM.</li>\n<li>Promote women participation in water resources development and management.</li>\n</ul>"

Objectives of BWP

Area of BWP's Work

"BWP has a General Body consisting of its partners and Executive Committee. The General Body is the apex body of the Partnership. Executive Committee (EC) headed by one President, one Secretary General and 11 Members from different disciplines, institutional background and gender working in the government, non-government, universities and private organization. EC executes all activities and programmes of Bangladesh Water Partnership with the cooperation of BWP secretariat. It has a lean structure of secretariat with a Country Coordinator. President's post is honorary. The Country Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and advising operation of country activities, preparation of Annual Budget and Work Plan. In adition, she/he oversees&nbsp; reporting to its Regional Office, fund raising activities at local level followed by technical advice to GWT Network &amp; GWP Secretariat and its Partners. Broadening the base of GWP partner and maintaining regular communication within the country and Region come under Country Coordinator's portfolio as well. Partnership and GWP Secretariat encourage lessons learning and sharing within their country and with other countries in the region."
