Vision 2030 – Bangladesh Water Partnership (BWP)

Aligned with the national aspirations of Bangladesh to achieve inclusive, climate-resilient, and sustainable development, the Bangladesh Water Partnership (BWP) envisions a future where water resources are governed through integrated, equitable, and adaptive systems that ensure prosperity, environmental balance, and social justice for all.

By 2030, BWP aspires to be a leading national and regional platform that advances Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), strengthens climate resilience, and promotes water security across diverse ecosystems—from coastal zones and drought-prone Barind tracts to floodplains and urban settlements. The vision emphasizes:

  • Climate-resilient water governance that effectively addresses increasing hydro-climatic extremes, including droughts, floods, and salinity intrusion
  • Equitable and inclusive access to water resources, ensuring that marginalized communities, women, and youth actively participate in decision-making processes
  • Ecosystem-based and nature-based solutions to restore ecological balance while supporting sustainable livelihoods
  • Digitally enabled, real-time water intelligence systems for informed policy decisions, early warning, and adaptive management
  • Strengthened transboundary cooperation to address shared water challenges across South Asia

Strategic Outlook: Drought Resilience and Regional Leadership

Building on its leadership role within the Global Water Partnership South Asia framework, BWP is committed to advancing a South Asia Drought Resilience Initiative 2030. This initiative aims to:

  • Establish a National Drought Resilience Platform in Bangladesh to coordinate policy, data, and response mechanisms
  • Scale up early warning systems and community-based drought preparedness strategies
  • Promote nature-based solutions such as watershed restoration, rainwater harvesting, and sustainable groundwater management
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange and regional cooperation among South Asian countries facing similar hydro-climatic risks

Looking Ahead to 2030

By 2030, BWP envisions Bangladesh as a model for climate-just and adaptive water governance, where:

  • Water security underpins economic growth and social well-being
  • Communities are empowered with knowledge, tools, and institutional support
  • Policies are data-driven, participatory, and aligned with global frameworks such as IWRM and SDG 6
  • Regional partnerships translate into tangible solutions for shared water challenges
