The BWWN was formally launched/announced on 6th of August 2002, thru a national workshop held at LGED auditorium. The workshop was planned and guided by an adhoc BWWN Advisory Committee comprised of: Dr Nilufa Islam (WARPO), Mrs, Sultana Afroze (LGED), Mrs. Sultana Razia (BARC), Mr Shakil Bin Azad (TMSS), Ms Reba Paul and Dr.Prof. Bilqis Amin Hoque. Mr QIS, Dr HR Khan, Mr Shahidul Hasan, Mr Saroj Kumar sarkar and Mr Moshiur Rahman provided with guidance and all support as well. The district and national workshops were implemented by Environment and Population Research and BWP in collaboration with LGED, GARNET-SA, TSP and TMMS. Miss Margret Verwik, Ms Hasna Moudud, Dr Viajaya Shrestha (SASTAC member), Miss Anuradha Chandra (from UNIFEM) and M. Abu Muslim (DPHE) participated as chief and special guests to the launching workshop. Mr QIS chaired the inaugural session. In addition, technical papers were presented by Mr Shahjahan (WARPO), Begum Shamsun Nahar (LGRD), Ms Shahnaz Parvin (DPHE-DANINDA), Sultana Afroz (LGED), Sanjida Parvin (BRRI), Lubna Yasmin (NGO Forum), Reba Paul and Dr.Prof. Bilqis Amin Hoque. Seventy six professionals participated in it. Vision, objectives and activity plans of BWWN were developed based on group consultations. All female participants were offered/accepted as members of BWWN. BWWN Committee was formed byLailun Nahar, Sultana Afroze, Sharmin, Hasna Moudud, Nilufa Islam, Reba Paul (secretary) and Dr. Bilqis Amin Haque(ccordinator). The group started the work on development of a directory of women professionals and undertook few discussions on BWWN structure with other BWWN members; in addition to exploring fund for BWWN activities. Most of the BWWN members then expressed their views for an independent BWWN led by an elected Committee. A BWWN newsletter was also started in collaboration with BWP.
